BRAMPTON, Ont. – The Brampton Battalion has acquired Derek Froats from the Kingston Frontenacs in a trade for fellow left winger Adam Lloyd, the Ontario Hockey League club announced Monday.
The Battalion also acquired left-shot centre Brennan Feasey from the Windsor Spitfires in exchange for the rights to defenceman Jordan McNaughton.
The two deals were consummated a day before the OHL trade deadline, which is noon Tuesday.
Froats, 19, has three goals and one assist for four points in 20 games this season. A third-round pick by Kingston in the 2008 OHL Priority Selection, he has played 94 games over two-plus seasons, scoring 21 goals and adding 11 assists for 32 points while accumulating 126 penalty minutes. He has earned seven assists in 12 playoff games.
Froats, a six-foot, 180-pound resident of Chesterville, Ont., missed the first 53 games of last season after suffering a shoulder injury in an exhibition game.
“Derek is a solid two-way player who brings some grit and will be a good guy in the dressing room,” said Stan Butler, Battalion director of hockey operations and head coach. “This is a good opportunity for Lloyd, too, to be going to a rebuilding team.”
Lloyd, 17, had three goals and three assists for six points in 31 games with the Battalion this season. The Orleans, Ont., resident played one game with the Troops last year. He was a fifth-round pick in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection.
Feasey, 17, has 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points in 18 games with the Chatham Maroons of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. Butler said Feasey will finish the season with Chatham and may see action with the Troops after that.
Feasey, a Glencoe, Ont., resident who stands five-foot-11 and weighs 180 pounds, played 13 games this season with Windsor without registering a point. He was a sixth-round pick in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection.
McNaughton, a 17-year-old from Komoka, Ont., played seven games last year and six this season with the Battalion before being returned to the Strathroy Rockets of the GOJHL. He was a 10th-round selection in 2010.
