BARRIE, Ont. – Barclay Goodrows goal 11 seconds into the third period lifted the Brampton Battalion to a 4-1 victory Saturday night over the Barrie Colts, vaulting the Troops back into first place in the Ontario Hockey Leagues Central Division.

Goodrow, Adam Lloyd and Sam Carrick had one goal and one assist each and Jamie Lewis also scored for the Battalion, which won a third straight game and moved ahead of Barrie and the Niagara IceDogs. Philip Lane contributed two assists, while goaltender Matej Machovsky faced 32 shots.

The Troops have a won-lost extended record of 17-10-4 for 38 points, one ahead of both the Colts and IceDogs, who fell 3-2 at home to the Kingston Frontenacs.

Ivan Telegin scored for Barrie, while goaltender Clint Windsor made 29 saves. The Colts, who had a four-game winning streak ended, are 17-11-3 for 37 points.

Goodrow broke a 1-1 tie with his team-leading 14th goal of the season on the Troops first rush of the final frame, converting from the open right side on a three-way passing play with Lloyd and Carrick.

Lloyd added his third goal in two games at 8:57, beating Windsor between the legs with a drive from the left-wing circle, and Carrick scored into an empty net at 18:59.

The two points moved Carrick into 20th place on the Battalions all-time list, ahead of Michael Vernace. Carrick has 59 goals and 66 assists for 125 points in 217 games.

Lewis opened the scoring with his first OHL goal at 1:17 of the second period when Jordan Auld’s right-point shot deflected off the rookie’s right arm.

Mitchell Porowski fed the puck deep on the left wing to Lane and went to the bench, replaced by Lewis. Lane fired the disc across the front of the net toward Brandon Robinson, who failed to make contact. The puck then caromed back to Auld, and his shot hit Lewis, driving into the right-wing circle.

Telegin tied it on the power play at 7:57, converting from the lip of the crease after a diagonal pass from the left wing by Daniel Erlich to Colin Behenna on the right side and a counter feed. It was Telegin’s 11th goal.

The Battalion stormed the Barrie net on the power play after Derek Hartwick went off for interference at 12:15. Carrick missed an open-side chance late in the two minutes, and Wilson produced a good blocker save on a screened point shot by Dylan Blujus.

The Battalion recovered from a sluggish start in the scoreless first period, forging a 12-9 shots advantage after trailing the count 7-2.

Zach Bell gave Windsor trouble with a semi-lob shot from the right point at 10:02, and Goodrow tested the Colts goalie with a drive from deep on the left wing near the 11-minute mark.

Windsor covered up at 11:30 after two in-tight chances by Michael Santini before Telegin fanned on a nifty setup coming in off the right wing after Goodrow went off for interference at 14:35.

Goodrow fed Lloyd deep on the left wing in the 18th minute, and the rookie, who scored his first two OHL goals in a 7-4 win Friday night at Kingston, just missed knocking the puck past Windsor at waist height.

Windsor stoned Carrick in the 20th minute after a pass to the goalmouth from Goodrow in the right-wing corner.

The Battalion scratched Patrik Machac, Brenden Miller, Matt MacLeod and Ian Watters. Barrie was without Jonathan Laser, Victor Terreri, Tanner Pearson, Mark Scheifele and Zach Hall.

The Battalion hosts Kingston at 2 p.m. Sunday.
